1. Meet El Vez
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The documentary Americanos is slated to air several times
on HBO in the days to come. Good reports about this one...your best
chance yet to acquaint yourself with the music of the legendary El Vez <http://members.aol.com/elvezco/main.htm>
and the hard-edged verse of the Taco Shop Poets <http://members.xoom.com/t_s_p/>,
both featured in the film. Here's a bit of the press blurb:
"Conceived and co-produced by actor and activist Edward
James Olmos, and directed by the Oscar®-nominated team of Andy Young and
Susan Todd (Lives in Hazard), AMERICANOS: LATINO LIFE IN THE UNITED
STATES features three- to six-minute profiles filmed in Los Angeles, San
Diego, New Mexico, Illinois, Miami, New York and other locations, focusing on
Latino-American individuals or groups and the unique ways they express their culture and
individuality."
